CASE STUDY

ASHA

American Speech–Language–Hearing Association

The Ask

Partner with the conference planning co-chairs, who also served as emcees, to create an energizing, community-building opening session for the ASHA annual meeting that aligned with the association’s brand and theme while infusing fun, inspiring attendees, and establishing a strong sense of shared purpose.

The Idea

With the theme “Igniting Innovation,” Projection and ASHA set out to demonstrate innovation rather than simply talk about it. Together, we explored the qualities that support innovative thinking — stepping outside one’s comfort zone, embracing failure, collaborating with experts, and trusting your team. From this foundation, we developed a creative concept designed to embody those characteristics on stage.

Projection proposed turning the two conference planning co-chairs — a speech-language pathologist and audiologist — into “rockstars” through an original music video and fully produced performance. Our work included:

  • Re-writing lyrics to a popular song, recording it in a studio, and producing a custom music video.

  • Developing a script that clearly explained why innovation matters and how the session itself was modeling that concept.

  • Creating a cohesive visual and production design, including high-energy graphics, stage elements, and transitions that supported the theme.

  • Collaborating on keynote selection and overall run of show to ensure every element connected back to the idea of innovation.

This approach allowed attendees to see innovation in action from the moment the session began.

The Result

A re-imagined, high energy opening session that delivered the energy, inspiration, and sense of community that ASHA was aiming for. Attendees left feeling motivated, connected, and ready to engage fully with the meeting.
